Plaid Friday was conceived from the idea of weaving the individual threads of small businesses together to create a strong fabric that celebrates the diversity and creativity of independent businesses.

Plaid Friday is the relaxing and enjoyable alternative to the big box store “Black Friday,” and is designed to promote both local and independently owned businesses during the holidays.

Plaid Friday strives to bring back the days when shopping for friends & family during the holidays was a pleasurable and leisurely activity.

The Astoria Downtown Historic District Association is thankful for the amazing businesses that make up our beautiful downtown! In honor of them we are celebrating Shop Local, Shop Plaid this Friday November 25th. Grab a punch card from these participating businesses and punch your way to a free tote (3 punches) or and entry into our raffle (5 punches). The raffle includes $10 gift certificates from EVERY participating business and 2 tickets to a show at the 1015 Theater!!! Don’t forget to vote for your favorite holiday window displays on the back of your shop plaid punch card!!

Starting Friday, there will be 2 weeks to Shop Local, Shop Plaid and collect punches while supporting Astoria’s Downtown. Get out there and Shop Plaid!!!

Creating this holiday tradition instills the value of spending locally and supporting the small businesses that fuel our economy. Plaid Friday is our local alternative to Black Friday, when we celebrate the creativity, diversity, and uniqueness of our local Downtown Astoria retailers.
