Featured is Rae’s evocative Girl on the Columbia, capturing a quiet moment on the river with her distinctive sense of atmosphere and narrative. New sculptures by Holt bring movement, imagination, and remarkable craftsmanship to the gallery. Together, their work offers two distinct approaches to storytelling through painting and sculpture.

Animals, realistic as well as whimsical, in watercolor, graphite, and acrylic are featured. A look at the vagaries of the local infrastructure is also featured. All artists are from the North Coast.

Adoration of Light considers yellow at the intersection of human and more-than-human realities, exploring natural color as a source of beauty, knowledge, connection, and collective action. Sixteen regional and national artists are featured alongside work by 12 young artists from Clatsop County. The exhibition also includes contributions from Laughing Rabbit Farm in Astoria, 46 North Farm in Olney, and Grand Prismatic Seed in Salt Lake City, as well as soundscapes by Thomas Meinzen of Portland and Tarun Nayar of Vancouver, BC. In an upside down world of exploitation which may feel increasingly brutal, the healing provided by this little mother—the color of the sun, the color of nurturing, the color of joy—is not to be underestimated. The 16 artists expand the exhibition into a collective inquiry, each approaching yellow through their own materials, processes, and relationships to the natural world. Rooted in the shifting atmosphere of the Oregon Coast, Nico Stiver's work reflects on change as one of life’s few constants—expressed through ever-changing light, weather, color, and the expansive relationship between land, water, and sky. Painterly and expressive, Stiver’s work moves between observation and abstraction. Layered washes, fluid marks, and gestural brushwork captures the movement and impermanence of Oregon's coastal landscape, while also reflecting the emotional experience of living within a landscape that is continually transforming. Celebrating our 14th anniversary, we are honored to be hosting two solo exhibitions during the month of August. In our South Gallery we welcome back the inimitable Tom Cramer with his latest series, BOLD, comprised of complex, color saturated oil paintings on canvas and wood burned oil paintings on panel. Cramer has been at the epicenter of the Portland art scene for decades as an exhibiting artist as well as creating public art. He is known to utilize almost anything as his canvas, including buildings, cars, and stage sets. This series, BOLD is a fresh and playful abstract series exuding contagious and uplifting energy of the enigmatic Tom Cramer, both in his paintings and his personality. In our Front Gallery we are excited to host a solo exhibition for Portland visual artist and filmmaker Arnold Pander. For his first show at Imogen, he brings a new series of watercolor paintings as well as oil paintings titled Distance. Within this series he’s primarily exploring the mystical beauty of light and water through abstract seascapes, focusing on mood and design. Pander, who grew up in a family of artists, has been working professionally for over 3 decades. Both Tom and Arnold will be at the gallery and available to answer questions about their work, during Artwalk 5 – 8 pm. Buoyancy, a new series of encaustic paintings by Elise Wagner, created from her studio perched out over the mighty Columbia River in Astoria, Oregon. This space has shaped her recent work, immersing and permeating every aspect of her compositions, anchored physically by a buoy that is steadfastly tethered in place, marking passage while keeping navigator’s safe. This small man-made structure, has become metaphor for Wagner, who’s attention has been captured by what she considers to be a symbol of resilience, orientation, and the ability to remain afloat amid uncertainty. Elise will be at the gallery during the opening reception 5 - 8 pm that evening. Elise will also be giving an artist’s talk Saturday, September 19th, at 2:00 pm, join us to learn more about her process, inspiration and career.

In the Company of Women presents atmospheric, narrative oil paintings by Kathy Tilley. Through a series of dreamlike tableaux, she employs enigmatic female figures to allude to stories and relationships inspired by her upbringing in close-knit fishing communities in Washington and Alaska. Tilley’s paintings are filled with intrigue and nostalgic allure, a tribute to the connections seated in memory that thread through our lives. In Mementos of Europe, Robert Gamblin, founder of Gamblin Artists Colors, celebrates his two passions: oil painting and exploring Europe. While visiting historic sites over many years, he made at least one drawing each day on location. Back in his studio, he has translated a select few of these studies into oil paintings, guided by the interplay of memory and marks on paper. Gamblin’s palette changes with each painting as he employs color to convey his emotional response to place, and to evoke beauty, mystery, and layers of history. Meet the artists at the evening reception from 5:00 to 8:00 PM with tunes by music by Kit Garoutte and Ann Fleming and complimentary refreshments.

Madeline pulls most of her inspiration for life from nature and the way it makes her feel when she’s in it. Architecture and historic details tickle her brain, and she loves referencing traditional fairytales and folklores. “I have been a nail artist for 4 years now as Speakeasy Nail Studio, and feel so lucky that I get to create wearable art, as well as take care of people.
