Our Big News

The Astoria Downtown Historic District Association has been named a semifinalist for consideration for the Great American Main Street Award in 2027. Main Street America is at the head of a national movement which helps communities to adopt a "preservation based approach to revitalization". The ADHDA has been a proud partner in their efforts, and we have been performing at the "Accredited" level of involvement with Main Street America and Oregon Main Street - their highest tier - for over a decade.

It is through the adoption of this approach that we credit much of the success we've enjoyed as an organization over the past 40+ years. The ADHDA has brought in close to $1 million in restoration grant dollars to restore some of our most treasured downtown buildings, and this was achieved largely through a grant offered by Oregon Main Street. It is because of this - our commitment to placing the focus of our communities' unique character on the downtown - that we are being recognized with this designation.

2 Years In A Row

For those keeping track, the ADHDA was named a semifinalist for the GAMSA this year (2026) as well. While we did not win the award, we were honored to be selected as on of 8 communities in a network of over 2,000 to be named a semifinalist. Many communities in the Main Street network have never been a semifinalist. To be chosen as one 2 years in a row is a testament of our commitment to the work. From running the Astoria Sunday Market and 2nd Saturday Artwalk, to partnering with building owners to secure grant funding, to running a growing number of community-based events throughout the year - the ADHDA has proven that when you do the work of a Main Street community, you get results.

Of course, none of this would be possible without you - our supporters! The ADHDA has a volunteer Board of Directors, 6 amazing volunteer committees, and a host of partners throughout the downtown and beyond who power the work we do. Without the communities support - from donations, sponsorships, volunteer efforts, and rallying around our cause - we would never have arrived at a place where we would be named a semifinalist for the GAMSA 2 times over!
